The BBPR studio, founded in Milan in 1932 by Gian Luigi Banfi, Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso, Enrico Peressutti and Ernesto Nathan Rogers, constitutes one of the earliest and most interesting cases of an artistic and cultural association based on teamwork. This form of operational understanding proved to be a fundamental intuition, which made it possible to overcome the artisanal dimension of the professional studio in order to move toward a conception of the architect's activity based on collegial input as a methodological principle, and capable of dealing with increasingly broad and heterogeneous themes, from interior design to landscape planning. Thanks also to the cultural commitment of individual members on different fronts the firm became, between the 1940s and 1960s, a veritable laboratory of modernity and a bridge to the international debate for the dissemination of Italian design culture.
