Swedish Late Gustavian Period 1820s Painted Bedside Table with Drawers and Doors
-
Description
A Swedish late Gustavian painted wood bedside table from the early 19th century, with two reeded drawers, double doors and three quarter gallery. Created in Sweden during the first quarter of the 19th century, this bedside table showcases the stylistic characteristics of the Gustavian era. The piece features a rectangular top surrounded by a stepped three-quarter gallery. The façade presents two carved reeded drawers, anchoring a pair of double doors. They open thanks to a petite lock to reveal a small storage compartment. The ensemble, raised on four tapered legs, is painted in a soft color typical of the Swedish taste for light palettes aiming at brightening the rooms during the long and dark winters of Scandinavia.
