Swedish Rococo 1770s Painted Wood Wall Cabinet with Chapeau de Gendarme Cornice
-
Description
A Swedish Rococo period painted wood wall cabinet from the late 18th century, with chapeau de gendarme cornice, two doors and two drawers. Created in Sweden during the third quarter of the 18th century, this Rococo period wall cabinet features a charming 'chapeau de gendarme' cornice, sitting above two doors adorned with carved panels. These doors open to reveal inner shelves including an upper serpentine one, made to store spoons. The cabinet's lower section showcases two drawers presenting wooden pulls. The ensemble is painted in a soft color typical of the Swedish taste aiming at brightening the rooms during the dark and long Scandinavian winters. The back is, of course, unfinished and fitted with hardware allowing the piece to be hung on the wall. With its Rococo lines and soft color, this Swedish wall cabinet circa 1770 will make for a wonderful addition to any home, perhaps hung in a kitchen or dining room.
