Description
19th Century Black Lacquer Console Table. Qing Dynasty Console Table with humpback stretchers in original black lacquer. Solid Elm wood console table with auspicious double happiness carved motif detail set into the stretchers all the way around the table. The legs stand on scroll key block feet revealing the Chinese Meander pattern. Know as the cloud and thunder pattern (yunwen and leiwen). The pattern symbolized life giving rain and the abundance it brought to farming people becoming a symbol for the gift of abundance from the heavens. This table is a very good example being detailed completely front and back also allowing the table to stand alone or float in a room. An exquisite console table of the period 1880.
