Description
19th Century English Regency Rosewood Centre Table
H: 72 cm (28 3/8")
W: 123 cm (48 7/16")
D: 123 cm (48 7/16")
Fine Regency Period circular rosewood veneered breakfast or centre table.
The well-figured rosewood top with a particularly wide band of crossbanding to the edge and two graduated beaded side mouldings. The top is supported on a single central column with a wide variety of turned details, creating a very interesting decorative effect.
The table has a platform base and four legs as seen on most tables of this type but the style of the platform is very unusual in that it is circular to match the top.
It has the additional refinement of panelled sections with particularly finely chosen veneers displayed within and the legs have a very distinctive shape to them and turned paterae at the knees. The piece retains the original brass castors with leaf moulded detail which have acquired a beautifully aged colour and patina.
The table top can be tilted so the piece can be displayed against a wall when not in use.
A very fine example.
