Arne Vodder L-shaped Executive Desk in Rosewood for Sibast, Denmark 1960s
-
Description
Arne Vodder is one of the great Danes when talking about furniture design. He graduated under the legendary Finn Juhl at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and subsequently had a long successful career. His designs were appreciated by American President Jimmy Carter, but also adorned the United Nations office in Geneva. Internationally acclaimed, but Vodder remained a somewhat unknown name for a long time. The American drama series Mad Men, which follows the ins and outs of a high-end advertising agency from the 1950s in New York, was partly responsible for the revival of mid-century Danish Design. Among others, Arne Vodder's boomerang desk was also represented.
Design
This desk consists of two parts. A spacious desk area with an impressively sized top. On the right we see four drawers, the top and bottom two of which differ in size. The levers are made of brushed metal. The top rests on the left side on the so-called return part. This return has beautiful tambour doors over the entire front that, when closed, display the beautiful flame drawing of the rosewood. After sliding open the tambour doors, we see three drawers on the left with a single drawer and a storage compartment next to them. Hidden further under the desktop there is also storage space with an extendable top. This work by Arne Vodder exudes luxury and was made with the greatest care by Sibast. The rosewood veneer radiates a warmth and class that is immediately noticeable. The front of the desk has a plate across the entire width that connects the desk part to the return part by means of four screws. It can also be positioned freely in the room.
Condition
The condition of the desk is good with only a light spot on the top of the return and diffuse light signs of use. We will restore this in our workshop. -
