Art Deco Desk in Bookmatched Amboyna and Burled Elm Desk with Cubist Detailing
-
Description
This elegant Art Deco cubist desk/ vanity was custom designed for Mr. Roger Sperry (American neuropsychologist, neurobiologist and Nobel laureate) and his wife in the United States in 1930 by the esteemed Henry Gercken. It features a bookmatched amboyna body with faceted corners composed of geometric cubist marquetry in amboyna and Carpathian elm. Additionally, the piece offers a black lacquer base and feet; conical black lacquer pulls; and lacquer detailing throughout. With its refined palate and clean modernist lines, this desk would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. It retains its original brass plaque label on the back reading "Made for Mrs. Roger Sperry Waterbury Conn. Arthur Eisemann & Co. New York City Designed by Henry Gercken Nov. 20 - Dec. 20 1930".
