Description
This mid-century coffee table, designed by Martin Eisler for Forma S.A. Móveis e Objetos de Arte, features a dual-layer design with a wooden base and an opaque glass top. Its geometric cutouts create a visually striking effect, allowing for the display of objects beneath the glass without sacrificing surface functionality. The table includes two side drawers, seamlessly integrated into the design, providing discreet storage options. This piece comes with its original opaque glass top, showcasing Eisler's innovative approach to both form and function.
Carlo Hauner (1927-1997) and Martin Eisler (1913-1977) were European-born designers who relocated to Brazil after World War II, contributing significantly to the modern Brazilian design movement. Together, they co-founded Forma, a furniture company that became renowned for its innovative use of materials like Brazilian hardwoods and metal frames. Their designs often reflected a vision of a modern utopia, blending form and function with Brazilian natural resources and craftsmanship, making them pioneers of mid-century modern design in South America.
