Bellini took inspiration from the grandeur and symmetry of a basilica when designing these unique legs.

If this specific table could talk... He would tell you that his first owner, the American dancer and choreographer William Forsythe, bought him in the 1970s from his first salary as a choreographer in Germany. When we drove to St. Moritz, Switzerland, to pick up the table, we met William's daughter. She told us this story about her dad and the table which witnessed many family moments. William’s creativity and idiosyncrasy were not limited to his dance choreographies; William 'narrowed' the Basilica table to make it a sidetable. At a specific moment William wanted a sidetable, so he made this Basilica table a better fit for what he needed. Where there is a will, there’s a way!

So, this means that the supporting beams of the table-legs underneath the tabletop are cut through (see pictures). When properly secured with the original screws, the disruption doesn’t have an effect on the overall sight or construction of the table.
