Description
English Aesthetic Movement period side table of rectangular form having 17th-century Japanese parcel-gilt lacquer panel top on painted parcel-gilt base all-over gilt painted chinoiserie motifs. This table exemplifies the European tradition of incorporating and repurposing antique Asian elements into European furniture forms, and the English Aesthetic Movement's eclecticism combining the style's fascination with Orientalism and the re-appreciation for Georgian, particularly Regency period design.
