Fine Coaching Table
-
Description
Coaching tables are always interesting and are a practical form of furniture even if we have given up our coaches. Produced in different forms at least the 17th century through the 20th century some were simple, some a little more complex but all were designed to be folded away in the smallest amount of space, to be produced when lunch or a picnic was required.
This example is of particularly fine quality with excellent mahogany veneers cross banding and boxwood line inlay. (Most are a solid piece of timber as they are susceptible to damage)
The quality indicates a private London commission from a very wealthy patron and although quite difficult to estimate we date the piece to the earlier part of the 19th century. -
