French 1790s Walnut and Cherry Slant Front Desk with Marquetry Geometric Decor
-
Description
A French Louis XVI period walnut and cherry slant front desk from the late 18th century, with marquetry décor, drawers and fine details. Created in France during the last decade of the 18th century, this secretary features a narrow rectangular top sitting above a slant front desk. Adorned with an exquisite marquetry decor showcasing geometric motifs and stars, this desk opens thanks to metal braces to reveal a perfectly organized interior. A narrow open shelf sits above four inner drawers surrounding a central compartment. The writing area is fitted with black leather. The lower section presents additional drawers, all fitted with brass hardware. Their dovetail construction demonstrates the piece's good age. The sides are made of recessed panels and the planked back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is raised on four tapered legs. With its Louis XVI lines and very fine details, this French walnut and cherry slant front desk circa 1790 will bring an undeniable touch of Classical elegance to any home, placed in a study, living room or bedroom.
