French 19th Century Mahogany Directoire Desk
-
Description
Dimensions: 28 ⅞” H x 56 ¼” W x 26 ½” D
An ingenious leather-topped mahogany desk with hidden extensions on each side to add occasional surface area. The leaves on the sides are still the original emerald green leather framed by gold tooling, whereas the main body has darkened and patinated to mostly brown–which suits the beautiful whorls in the mahogany grain. A clover-shaped key is used to operate the locks on the four drawers: two small drawers on the left side of the case, a wider drawer at center, and one deep drawer on the right. The right drawer also offers a locking compartment using a separate key. Four squared and tapered legs are fitted with elegant brass sabot feet. At home or in an office, this circa 1830 mahogany desk will be a pleasure to work at. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax, ready to join your interior.
