French 19th Century Solid Walnut Server
-
Description
This rustic console table, or server, was hand-crafted of solid walnut in France, circa 1860. The thick planks of the top have incredible texture, a rich patina, and breadboard arrangement. A few “honest repairs” to fill holes in the planks are evident as primitive clusters of square dowels. Within the large apron are three drawers opened by turned wood knobs. Inside the left drawer one sees long ago insect damage leaving convoluted grooves of incredible texture. A small, shallow drawer sits in the middle of the apron with a larger drawer to the right, mirroring the proportions of the left. The whole is supported by thick, squared, tapering legs without bottom stretchers. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this wonderful server will make a fine addition to a dining room, keeping room, or even an office. Please view the detailed images.
