George II Mahogany Concertina Action Card Table

Sold Sold
  • Description
George II period mahogany fold-over card table, the rectangular top with projecting shaped rounded corners, raised on four legs with distinctive carved lappet detail to the top of the leg and pad feet. It opens with a concertina action, making a full apron all the way round below the table top. The hinged top opens to reveal recessed insets in the rounded corners for candlesticks and deep guinea or money wells. The underneath has hand-made hooks and eyes to lock the legs into position when open and also when closed. It has wonderful color and patina.

Concertina-action folding tables have obvious advantages over the gate-leg style of table; there is always a leg at each corner whether the table is folded or extended.
