GEORGE II PERIOD CARVED MAHOGANY LIBRARY TABLE

Price Upon Request
  • Description
The solid overhang rectangular top with re-entrant corners and step-rounded edge above a plain apron, having a single drawer at either end retaining the original brasses, and raised on turned tapering legs with shaped lappet knees and rounded pad feet. English circa 1740. This table with its lappeted club legs relates closely to several mahogany side tables supplied to Sir Robert Walpole (d.1745) for the ground and second floors at Houghton Hall, Norfolk c.1725. The present table shares the same clean lines and elegant proportions as the Houghton tables with the sparing use of details that rate it above ordinary furniture.
