Description
A very elegant writing table as popular in the 1780s and 90s as now and finished on all sides, that would be positioned in a drawing room and was often considered a ladies desk.
This table is particularly interesting as the writing surface extends to provide a greater surface area. The table retains its original leather, finish and has been untouched for the last century.
London, England c. 1780-90
Provenance:
McLean Family, Philadelphia
Philadelphia Musum of Art as of 1942
Acquired by us from the above
Note: During inspection a letter addressed to a Miss Sally McLean and dated 8 June 1920 and thus confirming the provenance was discovered hidden in the desk and will accompany the piece. -
