Description
Italian 18th century scagliola rectangular console tabletop
Italian, 18th Century
Height 4cm, width 117cm, depth 60cm
This wonderful console tabletop was crafted in Italy during the Baroque period. It is crafted from scagliola, a substance made from a combination of plaster and glue that was popular during the Baroque era.
Filling the black background is a plethora of birds, foliage and even playing cards or tokens. The playful design which combines the natural and man-made world is superbly executed highlighting the beauty of Italian art.
The tabletop is particularly fitting for a console table and its dramatic design would be a superb addition to one’s interior. -
