Fine Italian carved and giltwood neoclassical console table, the original marble top (Spanish brocatello) over the apron with a center medallion mounted with a large floral boss and bellflower swags; the inset panels with applied leaves, scrolls and birds; the round tapering legs with leaf capitals and stop-fluting with carved bellflower.
Brocatello comes from Spain. Found in shades of violet and gold, it was named after 'brocade', the luxurious silk fabric with gold thread. Popular throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was used on some of the finest furniture and fireplaces of the time, including those at Versailles. -

Origin: Italy Period: 18th Century Materials: Wood, Marble, Gilding Condition: Good. The marble has a gorgeous, soft patina with no breaks or repairs- only a few chips along the back edge. A few of the inset carvings have been replaced.
