Late 17th/ Early 18th Century Tavern Table
-
Description
This is a very good example of a late Jacobean carved oak Tavern table. The generous 30 inch round top is an unusual feature as the majority of tavern tables were of square or rectangular form. The table was at one point in its life ebonized; traces of the black pigment remain in the folds of the carved skirt details and can be seen when viewing the reverse of the table. The table remains in remarkably good condition and retains its old surface. (It is currently out being spiffed up with several coats of hard paste wax. One leg has a professionally repaired leg; one side has suffered a slight losses to the skirt.
