Pair of antique Louis XV style ormolu mounted marquetry pedestals

$ 94,000
  • Description
    Pair of antique Louis XV style ormolu mounted marquetry pedestals
    French, Late 19th Century
    Height 130cm, width 47cm, depth 46cm

    This stunning pair of pedestals epitomizes the grandeur of the Louis XV style. A key model in French decorative arts, this pedestal design was crafted by celebrated cabinetmakers like François Linke.

    The elegantly bombe-shaped pedestals are crowned with exquisite Calacatta Viola marble, which seamlessly transitions into a finely detailed ormolu reeded frieze. The curved bodies of the pedestals are decorated with delicate marquetry panels, showcasing floral motifs in carefully chosen woods that complement the gilded ormolu mounts.

    At the top, the ormolu laurel swags gracefully drape between imposing Nemean lion heads, each lion clutching the drapery in its mouth. Additional ormolu accents, including rocaille patterns and ornate frames, further embellish the pedestals’ design.

    Supporting each antique are four ormolu lion paw feet, with detailed acanthus leaf motifs extending up onto the wooden surface.

    This magnificent pair of pedestals would make an outstanding addition to any interior, superb for showcasing treasured decorative items.
