Description
Made by American Design icon Paul Evans, this table was sold by Directional after production in 1972. At this point in his career, Evans had perfected his formula. The sculptured bronze line strikes the perfect balance between rare/studio-made and enough production numbers to propel it into the public eye.
First, Evans started with thick sheets of steel and formed the general shape of the table. This involves the base being cut, and two pieces for each stalagmite. Then, panels are cut and bent for the sheets between the stalagmites. Over many days, a thick atomized bronze finish is sprayed onto the frame. Periodically, Evans would put marks into the finish, giving it its unique look. The surface is treated to allow some bronze to shine, and then it is coated with a layer of resin for protection against oxidation/discoloration.
Visually, this table is stunning. The original finish has aged extremely well, showing next to no signs of use and perfect clarity and contrast. The brass shines through very well, allowing the designs etched into the surface to shine.
In very good vintage and original condition. We doubt there is another out there that presents this well.
