Description
This fine, original example of the amoeba coffee model 5005 table retains it’s original natural cork top with no chips, staining or discoloration. It was designed by Paul T. Frankl and manufactured by the Johnson Co. circa 1951. It’s distinctive amoeba design by the highly innovative American designer, Paul T. Frankl is an outstanding example of modernist design. Paul T. Frankl opened Frankl Galleries on 48th Street in NYC in the 1920’s. He immediately established himself as one of the foremost modern designers in the US with his skyscraper designs. He then came to California in 1934 where he changed his style to express the more horizontal and elegant Hollywood style of his celebrity clients. Still ahead and in the forefront of design, in the late 1940’s and into the1950’s he created strikingly original cork and mahogany line for the Johnson Co.
