Contemporary petrified wood coffee table on stainless steel feet. A small, organic modern side table/ coffee table which plate consists of precious petrified wood, showing a black surface adorned by white and light brown veins running through it. The natural petrified brown/ grey tree bark around the edge builds a great contrast. Midcentury styled stainless steel feet finalize the extraordinary look of this modern organic table.
Petrifaction is the result of a tree having been replaced by stone via a mineralization process that often includes permineralization and replacement. The organic materials making up cell walls have been replicated with minerals. Unlike other plant fossils, which are typically impressions or compressions, petrified wood is a three-dimensional representation of the original organic material which took millions of years to built.
