Description
Pietto Bossi attr, Scagliola Marble, Giltwood, Mirrored Consoles, Italy, 18th c
A pair of rare and important 18th-century Italian consoles attributed to Pietto Bossi. Each features a Scagliola-inlaid Carrara marble top, with ebonized and water-gilded legs adorned with claw feet and carved gilt decorative work, culminating in a lion's face. The serpentine-shaped legs enhance the elegant design, while the mirrored backs are framed in inlaid woods with ebony highlights. The marble tops exhibit fine Scagliola design work with old repairs. These consoles are a distinguished example of Italian craftsmanship, once part of a fine Park Avenue, NY home.
