Rare Queen Anne Oval Top Tea Table
New England, probably eastern Connecticut or Rhode Island, ca. 1750.
Black Maple
Over-all in fine condition, retaining some original red wash and varnish finish to the legs and skirt, with later application of red wash in the 19th century.
Provenance: Collection of Peter Tillou, purchased in the late 1960's.
The oval top is supported on the base with a cleat. The skirt is carved and shaped on all four sides, joining four cabriole legs ending in trifid feet, a feature not normally seen on New England tables.
