Rococo style side table with porcelain plaques

$ 6,800
  • Description
    This beautiful side table was designed in France in the 19th Century in the fashionable Rococo, or Louis XV, style. The piece has been crafted from kingwood and decorated with painted porcelain plaques and ornamental gilt bronze mounts.
    The table has a rectangular body, which has a leather top and sides that are decorated with porcelain panels. The side panels are rectangular and feature paintings of birds at their centre, framed within wavy gilt borders, and set against a green ground. These panels are enclosed within leafy gilt bronze frames. On the front facade, the rectangular porcelain panel has been split into three parts: a central, circular piece, flanked by two crescent-ended sections. All three pieces are painted with birds, contained within gilt borders and gilt bronze frames. The central medallion is fitted with a small handle, with a large slate-blue tassel attached, which can be used to pull open the drawer behind.
    Set onto the front legs of the piece are two foliate gilt bronze mounts. The table legs are cabriole shaped, meaning they bow outwards and then back in before curving out again to end with gilt bronze, foliate hoof feet.
    This refined Rococo style side table is delicate in size and could be used as an elegant addition to a study, bedroom or living room.
