Pine Coffee Table “Kvadrat” by Roland Wilhelmsson, Sweden 1960s
-
Description
This coffee table designed by Swedish designer Roland Wilhelmsson in the 1960s for Karl Andersson & Söner AB is characterized as a robust design with pleasant proportions. The table is made entirely of pine wood and has acquired a beautiful and very warm patina over the years. The base consists of a stacked construction with the middle beams at right angles on top of the lower ones. These also fit together nicely, so that even with the use of only straight shapes, a dynamic is created through shadows. This is further enhanced by the gaps created between the beams. A relatively large tabletop rests on the base and, as indicated earlier, has a warm appearance. Typical of pine wood are the knots and the dramatic flame drawing in the wood and this top is also fully adorned by it. The top consists of several parts that are seamlessly attached to each other with beautiful wood joints. The connections can be seen both on the top and on the sides. Under the top are two original labels. Its condition is entirely in accordance with age and use. Small scratches and stains are part of this but do not detract from the refined look and feel of this item.
