-
Description
A Rare and Important French Grotto Side or End Table or Gueridon by Serge Roche for Maison Jansen, France, circa 1940. This hand made, mid-century piece was part of a suite of pieces designed for an exclusive private residence by Maison Jansen and Serge Roche. The table is singular in its concept, artistry and hand made craftsmanship. It is also deeply reflective of a reverence for nature and the neo-baroque and surrealist design aesthetics which emphasized the exotic and the uniqueness of life. It is encrusted with shells, sea life, starfish, abalone, mother of pearl and sea stones. It is composed of a wood and wire form and held together with a mixture of plaster, gesso, limestone and marble dusts, It is also a timeless and beautiful work of art. One of the pieces in the set of 4 sconces, a mirror and this table is impressed with the JANSEN logo. See the last photo. All pieces are sold separately.
