  • Description
THE BENACRE HALL JAPANESE LACQUER CABINET ON ORIGINAL SILVERED STAND
    ENGLISH CIRCA 1680

A rare small sized , Japanese Black and Gilt Lacquer Cabinet of particular high quality standing upon the original English William and Mary Period robustly carved baroque silvered stand .

It was normal for the cabinet to be imported from the East and a English base prepared by local craftsmen to suit the fashionable upper class taste .

Of note : The William and Mary style differed from the English norm -as the silvering of furniture became a prominent and refreshing style instead of the usual gold leaf - complimenting the bold and strong look of the Baroque .

Of note : Lacquer or Urushi is the sap extract from some Eastern trees .
