Willy Rizzo, 'Alveo' low table in burl and brass, Italy, 1972 ca.
-
Description
'Alveo' low table, made by Mario Sabot, designed by Willy Rizzo in the early 1970s.
Alongside the methacrylate version, enamelled in different colours, with chromed metal details, a walnut burl version with brass details was created: a 'richer' and more glamorous alternative.
The table we present comes from the furnishings of a private home in Rome and is in relatively good condition. The brass corners show traces of oxidation, as does the central basin, which, in all likelihood, was not used as a bottle compartment, but as a planter.
We deliberately did not proceed with polishing the brass, which would have made the basin too shiny.
On the surface, there is a scratch, which camouflages quite easily with the grain of the briar. -
