Description
The Stork Club was a nightclub in Manhattan , New York City which opened in 1929 and closed in 1965. It was considered one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, catering to Cafe Society, Movie Stars , and Aristocrats from around the globe. Sherman Billingsley, a former bootlegger open the club on W. 58th St until it was raided by Prohibition agents in 1931. Later the Club was moved to E.51St, then from 1934 until its closing in 1965, it was moved to 3 E.53rd St. just off Fifth Ave. During its years in operation, the club was visited by many political , social and celebrity figures. Known to have hosted the Kennedys, the Roosevelts , the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Ermest Hemingway with Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier even announcing their engagement at the club. Billingsley , a generous host most probably gifted an important and welcomed visitor with these charming cufflinks...Marked 14K, most likely dating anywhere from 1935-1950.
The cufflinks depict the famous logo of a Stork with its signature Top Hat, handmade in 14K and platinum with black onyx cabochon stones in the top hat and a tiny diamond in the stork's eye. Guaranteed to delight and inspire an interesting conversation. -
