Classic Florida Style: The Houses of Taylor & Taylor, The Monacelli Press.

During their 30-plus years in the design world, William and Phyllis Taylor, the husband-and-wife team behind the Miami Beach-based firm Taylor & Taylor, have cultivated a lush, tropical aesthetic that has become their signature style. William, a fifth-generation Floridian, creates architecture that forges strong connections between nature and the built environment, while Phyllis, a native New Yorker, designs interiors that complement and respond to the coastal climate and vibrant landscape.

Inspired by the area’s indigenous elements -- both natural and constructed -- the couple believes that Florida is not only a state but a state of mind. Though the Taylors travel widely seeking design inspiration, they always retain their first love -- Florida’s historic architecture -- from breezy seaside bungalows to brightly colored Art Deco hotels and stately Italianate palazzos. Avid readers and explorers of architectural and design history, the Taylors strive to instill a sense of the past and a sense of place in their designs. According to the couple, “We consider our most successful projects those where we can bring our knowledge of history, contemporary design, and decorative arts to bear as we fill the rooms of our clients’ houses.”

A recent book published  by The Monacelli Press captures the Taylors’ authentic designs, which are defined by their casual approach to living, their adoration of life’s simple luxuries, and their ability to seamlessly blend native Florida materials and one-of-a-kind antiques. Classic Florida Style: The Houses of Taylor & Taylor is bursting with sumptuous, full-color photographs that reinforce the couple’s singular style. The volume features ten luxurious private homes -- Nautical, Classical, Memorable, Environmental, Personal, Monumental, Historical, Perennial, Tropical, and Traditional -- each with a unique personality, but united by their reverence for the sand, sea, and sun.

The Taylors will discuss Classic Florida Style at 2PM on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show. A book signing will follow their lecture. During the event, the Taylors will touch on what makes homes in Florida so special. According to the couple, “Florida is the whole experience of living indoors as well as out. The boundaries between the two create a strong connection between the built environment and nature. That is the Florida experience that everyone should have.” The Taylors will also participate in a panel discussion titled What’s New Palm Beach? at 4PM. Veranda’s Interiors Editor Carolyn Englefield will lead local designers, tastemakers, and style provocateurs in conversation.

The Taylors have been selected to design a vignette for the Palm Beach Show’s Designer Showcase. Helmed by the celebrated New York-based designer, Campion Platt, the Showcase will also feature vignettes by Gil Walsh, Suzanne Kasler, Lars Bolander, Jennifer Garrigues, and Platt. The designers have been asked to create spaces using fine art, furniture, and decorative accessories from exhibitors in the show, illustrating how antiques can be integrated into contemporary interiors to elevate and enhance today’s environments.
