Description
Masted Ship, "Alexander Gibson".
Signed, (l.r.) "Henry Loos", dated 1879.
Oil on canvas.
In a black painted, gilt frame.
28 1/2 x 41 1/2 framed.
Lined, fine condition, very minor scattered in-painting.
Provenance: Peter Tillou Gallery, 1979.
The three masted ship, "Alexander Gibson", sailed out of Belfast, Maine. Like many Belgium port painters, Loos was academically trained and was very accomplished with painting in great detail. This example exhibits the best of his capability. -
