Superb Antique East Anatolian Kilim
-
Description
A fantastic antique kilim of large size from NE Turkey. Such kilims were ordered for wealthy local patrons from villages where skilled tribal weavers could be contracted for such work. The box design allowed these weavers, who wove much smaller pieces for their own homes, to use their traditional motifs in creating a larger composition. One of the best and oldest examples of this type we have encountered in recent years. It is also in remarkable state of preservation.
