Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom
Swedish
Beginning in 1919, Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom created designs for rugs and furnishing fabrics in southwest Sweden. Using the Swedish countryside as her inspiration, she designed some of the most important carpets of the 20th century. After she was more than 60 sixty years old, in 1934, she gained important notoriety while exhibiting at a local Swedish gallery. Two years later, in 1936, her designs were shown at the British Museum in London and in 1939 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Her pieces are signed "MMF" and often alongside "BN" for Barbro Nilsson, who carried on the textile works after Marta Mass-Fjetterstrom's passing in 1941.
