Robert Baribeau

American, 1949
Robert Baribeau, an abstract artist originally from Oregon and now based in New York, boasts a robust 47-year exhibition history that spans numerous aesthetic movements. He made his New York debut in 1979 at Allan Stone Gallery, during a time when second wave Pop was emerging and figuration was gaining momentum. Baribeau's expressionistic, impasto abstractions quickly distinguished themselves with their complex and elusive nature.
Throughout the evolving landscape of contemporary art, Baribeau has remained steadfast in his unique vision. His instantly recognizable visual language exudes a remarkable confidence, with each painting reflecting a strong assurance in its ability to captivate viewers.
Baribeau has been honored with several prestigious grants, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts Grant, the Florence Saltzman-Heidel Foundation Grant, and a Pratt Institute Art Department Grant/Fellowship. His work has been showcased in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions across the United States and has garnered attention in respected publications such as The New York Times, Artforum, New American Paintings, and Art News. Currently residing in Stanfordville, New York, Baribeau continues to explore and expand his artistic practice.
