The fair, which spotlights American nineteenth and twentieth century works of art, will present a tightly curated selection of landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and sculpture from seventeen exceptional exhibitors.
Participating galleries include some of the country’s most venerable American art dealers, including Adelson Galleries (New York), Avery Galleries (New York), Conner Rosenkranz (New York), DC Moore Gallery (New York), Debra Force Fine Art (New York), Godel & Co. Fine Art (New York), Hirschl & Adler Galleries (New York), Questroyal Fine Art (New York), Thomas Colville Fine Art (New York/Connecticut), and Tom Veilleux Gallery (Maine). Important works by such luminaries as Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Stuart Davis, Milton Avery, Romare Bearden, and Charles Burchfield will be up for grabs. TAAF, which has distinguished itself as an exceedingly elegant affair with stellar offerings, will also include special lectures given by renowned professionals including writer and art historian Avis Berman, who will lead a discussion titled Distilling the American Flavor: Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Juliana Force and the Making of the Whitney Museum on Sunday, November 15, and Stephanie L. Herdrich, the Assistant Research Curator for the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, who will give a lecture titled Collecting Sargent: Posers and Patrons in the Gilded Age on Monday, November 16.
The opening of the American Art Fair marks the beginning of American Paintings Week, a seven-day art extravaganza that includes Just Off Madison, an open house of galleries specializing in American art, as well as a flurry of major American art auctions at Christie’s and Sotheby’s. Just Off Madison will take place Wednesday, November, 18, and will allow participants to enjoy museum-quality works in an intimate setting. Collectors, curators, and American art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to visit some of New York’s finest private galleries, many of which operate by appointment, on an informal basis. All galleries are located along East 69th through 79th Streets between Fifth and Madison Avenues, allowing guests to discover an exquisite selection of American paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, while leisurely strolling through the Upper East Side. Participating galleries include MME Fine Art, Conner Rosenkranz, Avery Galleries, Menconi + Schoelkopf, Debra Force Fine Art, and Taylor Graham.
