Pier Luigi Colli

Italian, 1895 - 1968
Pier Luigi Colli was an Italian furniture designer and architect who was active in the mid-20th century. He was born in Milan in 1895 and began his career as a designer in the 1920s, working with renowned architects and designers such as Gio Ponti, Emilio Lancia, and Luigi Vietti.

In the 1930s, Colli began working as an independent designer, and his furniture designs were characterized by their clean lines and geometric forms. He often used luxurious materials such as brass, chrome, and exotic woods to create his pieces.

One of Colli's most famous designs is the "Z" chair, which he created in 1935. The chair is made of bent wood and has a distinctive zigzag shape, which gives it a modern and sculptural look. The "Z" chair became an iconic piece of Italian modernism and was exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1936.

Colli's work was highly influential in the development of Italian modernism, and his designs are still sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today. He died in 1968, but his legacy lives on through his iconic furniture designs.
