Wilhelm Kåge
Swedish, 1889 - 1960
Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer who worked for Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory from 1917 to 1949. He was one of the most influential designers of the mid-20th century, and his work helped establish Gustavsberg as a leading producer of modern ceramics.
Kåge's designs were known for their simple, elegant forms, and their use of subtle colors and glazes. He was particularly interested in exploring the potential of porcelain as a material, and he experimented with a range of techniques to create unique textures and finishes.
One of Kåge's most famous designs was the Argenta series, which he created in the 1930s. The series featured vases, bowls, and other objects with silver-colored surfaces that were created using a special metallic glaze. The Argenta series was hugely popular and helped establish Gustavsberg as a major force in the world of modern ceramics.
Kåge's work has been exhibited in major museums around the world, and he is considered one of the most important Swedish ceramic artists of the 20th century.
