Description
Provenance: Countess Ruth Costantino, New York
Count A.G. Costantino, Washington
Doucet Gallery, 1959, Place Beauveau, Paris
This pair of Louis XV painted chaises en cabriolet each has carved floral motifs on the chair rails, the aprons, and the knees of the cabriole legs. They retain their original grayish-light green paint.
Part of a family of furniture makers, Charles de Lenoncourt worked in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, near the rue Saint-Nicolas, and produced delicately scaled and detailed seating furniture, some pieces of which are mentioned in the archives of the Garde-Meuble. He received his maîtrise on August 2, 1752. -
