Chicago Residence
Photographed by Kim Sargent
Chicago, IL
This outstanding 3,000 square-foot Chicago townhouse was designed as an entertaining quarter with a library, screening room, gym, and ballroom. Designed to make the impression you would expect of a hotel lobby, with dramatic architectural elements and carefully selected furniture creating the perfect space for both larger and more intimate gatherings. A monumental sculpture by postwar abstractionist, Claire Falkenstein spans eight feet, its cluster of wires and chunks of glass conjuring visions of shooting stars. Lauren Saunders used that same celestial imagery in the hand-crocheted swirls and beams of light she embroidered onto the pillows for the adjacent sofa. Balance is found throughout the home in hues of warm browns and blues.
