Carl-Gustav Hiort af Ornäs was a prominent Finnish designer and architect known for his contributions to modern Scandinavian design. He was born in 1911 in Helsinki, Finland, and studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology. Hiort af Ornäs worked as a designer for the Finnish furniture company Artek in the 1930s and 1940s, where he designed several pieces of furniture that are now considered classics of modern design, including the Stool 60 and the Tea Trolley 900. In the 1950s, he founded his own design firm and continued to create furniture, as well as ceramics, glassware, and textiles. Hiort af Ornäs's work was characterized by its simplicity, functionality, and timeless appeal, and he was widely recognized for his contributions to modern Scandinavian design. His designs have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and many of his pieces continue to be produced and sold today by leading furniture companies. Hiort af Ornäs passed away in 1996, but his legacy as a pioneering designer and architect continues to influence contemporary design today.
