Glenn of California, a pioneering furniture company founded by Stanley Young in Arcadia, California, played a pivotal role in shaping the modern design landscape of post-World War II America. In response to the rising demand for contemporary aesthetics, the company spearheaded a new movement in West Coast modernist design during the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.

Despite limited accessible information about Glenn of California, its significance in American Modernism is underscored by Stanley Young's strategic hiring of renowned furniture designer Milo Baughman in 1948. Baughman's early designs for the company, characterized by their simple yet elegant forms crafted from natural materials, particularly walnut, quickly became synonymous with Glenn of California's commitment to quality and functionality.

The collaboration between Baughman and Glenn of California culminated in the 1950 launch of the California Modern collection, showcasing the designer's hallmark pieces. Alongside Baughman, the company enlisted a roster of distinguished designers, including Greta Grossman, Paul Laszlo, John Kapel, Robert Baron, John Keal, and Kipp Stewart. Together, they crafted furniture that embodied a distinct West Coast Modern style, characterized by its accessibility and affordability.
