Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1913-1968) were born in Milan, where they, along with their brother Livio (1911-1979), embarked on their design careers. Their work was driven by a pursuit of innovative forms, techniques, and materials, aiming for a holistic design approach. Both Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni played pivotal roles in founding the Industrial Design Association.
 
In 1964, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni began collaborating with Zanotta, a partnership that would greatly influence the world of design.
