Description
This large hand-sculpted Osselet stool by Jacques Jarrige is a striking example of the artist’s ability to merge sculpture and function into a single, expressive form. Carved from solid oak, the piece possesses both a commanding presence and an inviting warmth. Its generous scale and rich materiality enhance its sensuous appeal, making it as much a tactile experience as a visual one.
The design playfully explores the relationship between positive and negative space—an essential theme in Jarrige’s work. Hollowed voids cut through the solid mass, creating dynamic openings that invite light to pass through and the eye to wander. These carved absences lend the stool a sense of movement and fluidity, as though the form were shaped by natural forces rather than tools.
Whether used as a seat or standalone sculptural object, the Osselet stool introduces an element of organic rhythm into any space. Its undulating surfaces and softened contours reflect Jarrige’s intuitive, hands-on process, where each curve is shaped by feel as much as by vision.
Signed by the artist, this piece is a testament to Jarrige’s deep engagement with material, gesture, and the quiet drama of form. Custom woods and finishes are available upon request. -
