A Gilded Wood Console Bracket Depicting America

Description
This highly sculptural console bracket is centered by a supporting herm figure in the guise of an American Indian with a crown of feathers. It was probably made as part of a series, each of which represented a continent, as was the fashion in the eighteenth century. The shaped latticework and incurved shell-like scrolling elements are indicative of early rococo furniture made in Frankfurt for the Princes von Thurn und Taxis.
