Sur le Bosphone

Description
The key to this painting's charm is that the subject is a beautiful young woman who is showing her face. She lounges comfortably in a carpeted boat with a lute by her side, running her hands among the water lilies. Bridgman captures her in a peak magical moment of peace and joy. In the distance (upper left ) you can see the rough outline of a minaret and cityscape rendered in blue. The overall composition is perfectly balanced in keeping with the harmonious spirit of the scene. Original stretchers and labels and titled on verso.
A similar Bridgman picture just sold at Christie's for $345,000. It was of smaller dimensions and dipicting of "Two young Algerian" beauties one holding a lute and the other a drum.
