Description
Anonymous artist. Buffalo, New York. Verbal history stated that this carving is believed to have been created by a sex cult leader in Buffalo, New York. Charged with forbidden sexuality, this scene is set at the water’s edge. One woman swoons under her lover’s caress. Historically, such lesbian images were created for the entertainment of men. This work is surprisingly sensitive to the subject and is both erotically and emotionally convincing. Two additional carvings of women with graphic poses by the same maker are known to exist.
