Description
This armchair was likely used by Simon Cameron when he was Adjutant General of Pennsylvania in 1826. Cameron went on to have a brilliant political career in the U.S. Senate, as Secretary of War under Abraham Lincoln and as Minister to Russia. He developed an efficient political machine in Pennsylvania reaping rewards for himself and associates. The chair is from the estate of antiquarian John Snyder (1947-2014) and was accompanied by a note stating the Simon Cameron provenance and attributing the chair to the Lichtenthaler shop of Lititz, PA.
